Classroom at a school in Ghana with students sitting at desks donated from FCCPS

Just before the demolition of the old GM high school building earlier this year, FCCPS donated hundreds of desks and chairs to schools in the township of Osu, Ghana, a suburb of the country's capital.

In its request last year for the surplus items, the Osu Citizens Social Club (O.C.S.C.), a non-profit involved with charitable work to help improve the socio-economic livelihood of the people of Osu and that coordinated the transfer explained –

Many of the schools and students of the town lack the basic educational resources, such as books, chairs, desks and other basic educational materials. With many of these children coming from low-income families, but doing their best to excel in school, it is our unreserved mission to find ways and means to help and assist these children and students to attain their full potential.

Ebenezer Okai, a member of the Meridian technology team and from Ghana, approached administrators with the donation idea.
