Virginia Standards of Learning Program

Falls Church City Public Schools is sharing this important opportunity from the Virginia Department of Education

Dear FCCPS Families,

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is seeking parent and guardian representatives to participate in establishing new proficiency standards ("cut scores") for Math and Reading Standards of Learning Assessments. This is a unique opportunity for parents to have direct input in Virginia's educational assessment system.

Why This Matters

Parent perspectives are essential in determining appropriate achievement levels as Virginia implements more rigorous academic standards. Your involvement helps ensure that assessments accurately reflect appropriate expectations for student performance.

Meeting Details

All sessions will be held at the Virginia Crossings Hotel and Conference Center in Glen Allen, VA:

  • Mathematics: June 9-11, 2025

  • Reading: June 11-13, 2025

The VDOE will cover hotel accommodations and per diem expenses. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Selected participants will also attend a virtual orientation on May 19, 2025.

How to Apply

This is a meaningful way to contribute to Virginia's education system and represent the parent perspective in important decisions that affect our students' academic journeys.

Note: You do not need to be an education professional to participate - the VDOE specifically seeks parent and guardian perspectives.
