Assessments by Grade Level

Assessments are an integral part of the teaching and learning process in Falls Church City Public Schools. Students are assessed, formally and informally, in a variety of methods and formats throughout the year. Teachers and instructional leaders use assessment data to measure students' growth and progress and inform instructional decisions. Certain assessments are also required by state and federal agencies to monitor school performance and fulfill reporting requirements. Basic information about the assessments administered to students at each grade level in Falls Church City Public Schools is provided below.

Keep the following in mind while reviewing the assessments detailed below:

  • Teachers may administer classroom assessments in addition to the formal assessments listed below.

  • Students who are receiving or being screened for additional special services, such as advanced academics and special education, may be expected to participate in additional assessments.

  • Students in selected schools or grade levels may be identified to participate in additional assessments, such as the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), to fulfill periodic federal, state, and/or local requirements.

  • The schedule/test windows defined below are subject to change based on inclement weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
