Student Registration for 2023-24 School Year

To register your student for the current school year, follow the Four-Step Registration Process, outlined below.

Please Note

  • Due to class placement decisions and other considerations, FCCPS cannot facilitate same-day registrations. Students will start school the day after their registration appointment.

  • Jessie Thackrey Preschool has a separate application process. Students must first be accepted into the program. Contact the school for information on how to apply.

  • For assistance in another language, please contact the school registrar to access the Language Line (phone interpretation service).

  • To expedite the process, the Parent Registration Checklist provides a detailed list of all required documents and materials. Consult this list before starting the registration process.

Military-connected families: During registration, be sure to let the registrar at the school know that your child is part of a Military family.

Four-Step Registration Process

Step 1: Determine Eligibility

  • Confirm that your residency address is within the Falls Church City limits. Use the FCCPS Address Verification Page. Students must reside at this address.

  • There is a difference between City of Falls Church and the Falls Church area of Fairfax County. Many addresses that include Falls Church, VA are not in the City of Falls Church.

  • If the address is in the City of Falls Church, the Online Pre-Registration Form will open immediately.

  • If the address is not in the City of Falls Church database, you will be directed to a screen that provides further information.

  • Families who live outside the FCCPS boundaries but would like to attend our schools, may apply through the FCCPS Non-Resident Tuition Program.

Step 2: Online Pre-Registration Form

  • The Online Pre-Registration Form will automatically open after your address is verified in Step 1.

  • In order to complete the Online Pre-Registration Form, you will need an email address. Parents or guardians who do not have an email can create a free Gmail account here.

  • After the Online Pre-Registration Form is received and approved, the school registrar will send an email to the parent/guardian with the link to begin Online Registration (Step 3). This email will come from PowerSchool, and will provide all information needed to begin Step 3.

Step 3: Complete Online Registration

  • After you receive the email from PowerSchool, follow the directions to log in and complete the Online Registration.

  • This process will gather all necessary information for each student.

  • Refer to the Parent Registration Checklist for a list of all required documents and information.

  • Your submission will be reviewed by the school registrar. When it is approved, a confirmation email will be sent to you.

  • The Online Registration form must be completed and approved before scheduling an Enrollment Appointment (Step 4).

Step 4: Enrollment Appointment with the School Registrar

  • Registrations are completed with an in-school Enrollment Appointment that includes the student and the adult with whom the student lives at the time of enrollment - either a parent, court-appointed guardian or legal custodian. The accompanying adult may be required to present photo identification and proof of residency.

  • After receiving the confirmation email from the registrar, email or call to schedule the Enrollment Appointment.

  • If enrollment occurs during the school year, after all documents have been received and approved, the student will be able to start school the day after the Enrollment Appointment.

  • Registration practices differ slightly from one FCCPS school to another. Contact the school registrar with questions or concerns.

Tips and Advice

  • Make sure all registration information is accurate (matches legal documents) and in the proper format (e.g. full legal names, birthdates).

  • Provide contact information for all individuals who have custody of your student, in addition to providing emergency contacts for your student.  Make sure the information submitted is accurate for all contacts .

  • If you are moving to FCCPS from another district, your student’s previous K-12 school records are required.

  • All students must have health and immunization records prior to being enrolled in FCCPS. Make an appointment as soon as possible if you need immunizations or health records.

  • Review information about notifications and permissions carefully. For example, opting out of the photo release could mean that your child will not be able to have their picture posted in the yearbook, Morning Announcements, and other FCCPS publications.

  • All required registration documents should be electronically submitted during the Online Registration . Scan or photograph these required documents and upload them when prompted. If you are having difficulty with the upload, you may email them to the school registrar in order to expedite the subsequent enrollment appointment process.
