The Virginia Department of Health announced there are 2 presumptive positive cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Northern Virginia; a Fort Belvoir resident and a City of Fairfax resident in his 80s both of whom recently traveled abroad. The Virginia Department of Health and Fairfax County Health Department held a press conference Sunday, March 8.

With the announcement of these first cases in Virginia, I want to remind you of our close relationships with our public health officials.  FCCPS continues to follow all recommendations and protocols from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Virginia Department of Health, and the Fairfax County Health Department

We will continue to share information with you as this public health situation evolves. We assess our status daily and are strategically planning to support our learners, families, and our staff members should the need arise. Very soon, we will be sharing comprehensive information with our community regarding the potential FCCPS response related to instruction, family support, and other operations should we be impacted directly by Coronavirus (Covid-19) in our school division.

For the latest updates regarding this evolving situation, please continue to visit our FCCPS Health Services Page, CDC Information, and the Fairfax County Health Department Web Page. Additionally, you can contact the FCHD COVID-19 Information Line during business hours:  703-267-3511.

Our schools will be open on Monday and run under normal operations. All instruction and extra-curricular activities will continue as planned. We will continue to focus on our prevention and hygiene efforts. We will also continue to prepare and plan for any potential impacts on our learning community. As I shared last week, please check in on each other as you prepare your families and know we are a strong community that cares about each other.  We will face this situation as we do all things here in FCCPS... together. Please enjoy the rest of the weekend, and we will see everyone on Monday morning to begin another great week of learning. #bettertogether

Sincerely,

Peter J Noonan Ed.D
Superintendent
