FCCPS Business and Community Partnership Honorees
The Falls Church City Public Schools (FCCPS) Business in Education Partnership (BIE) announces the recognition of six community partners in appreciation of their ongoing commitment to working in partnership with FCCPS teachers, students and parents. Each honoree has engaged in multi-year, multifaceted partnerships, with a wide variety of school stakeholders. Business in Education Partnership Chair, Eliot Corwin, of Advantage Trainers visited the honorees for socially-distant award presentations.
The Virginia School Boards Association BUSINESS HONOR ROLL
FCCPS named three businesses to this statewide recognition. These companies join hundreds more for this statewide partnership honor.
Beyer Auto is a longtime partner of FCCPS. As one of the nearby neighbors of George Mason High School, the auto dealership looks after their neighbors. Most recently Beyer Auto has been a generous sponsor of the Falls Church Education Foundation's Run for the Schools and Annual Gala and Auction. They also sponsored the Elementary PTA GIVE Day project. Beyer Auto staff served as mentors for GMHS student externs, and hosted field trips to the business.
Creative Cauldron provides a home for the arts for many FCCPS students, who participate in the Learning Theater program. Working with GMHS teachers Creative Cauldron provided performance space for the VHSL State Championship-winning one-act play "Rush Lit" and for students studying Hamlet to act out scenes from the play. GMHS student externs are welcomed for an opportunity for real-world learning and other volunteer opportunities. Creative Cauldron also donates to the All Night Grad Celebration and provides discount or free tickets to FCCPS employees for some performances.
Family Medicine in Falls Church is committed to being an essential community partner to FCCPS. The team works with FCCPS staff to ensure that epi-pens are in all schools. Family Medicine made a generous donation to provide homemade facecoverings to students in need of masks. Dr. Theisz welcomed a student for GMHS Career Shadowing Day, and they are sponsors the Falls Church Education Foundation Run for the Schools.
Falls Church Honored Partners
These three businesses made significant contributions to school programs through partnerships with teachers, students and School Affiliated Organizations.
Baroody Camps had a unique partnership last year. When 4th grade students were studying space and planets, Pete Baroody visited each class with Lego robotics kits for a STEM-infused lesson on exploring Mars. Baroody Camps has partnered with the Elementary PTA for several years to provide afterschool enrichment activities for students, and has also worked with the GMHS FIRST Robotics team. They've sponsored GIVE Day at both elementary and middle schools.
Code Ninjas is a newcomer to Falls Church, and stepped right into work in the community. The sponsored the GMHS FIRST Robotics team, and hired many students to work with younger students in afterschool STEM programs. Last winter they advertised in the Henderson Theatre program for Mary Poppins, Jr.
Falls Church Modern Dentistry welcomed a field trip visit from the Henderson Heroes afterschool program. Dr. Jung and his team participated in "Give a Kid a Smile Day", providing free dental services to students in need. They also donated mini toothpaste tubes to third grade students learning a lesson about kindness.
All six honorees join a distinguished list of partners who have been recognized since 2009.
