Following an extensive search, and recommendation of a search panel, the Falls Church City Public Schools School Board is appointing Mr. Timothy Kasik as the new principal of Mount Daniel Elementary School. Mr. Kasik is finishing his eighth year as principal of Crestwood Elementary School in Springfield, Virginia and also happens to be an FCCPS parent.

"I couldn’t be more pleased that Mr. Kasik has made the move to be principal of Mount Daniel Elementary School,” said Superintendent Peter Noonan. "His experience as a principal for the last eight years, strength and knowledge of high-quality instructional practice, and ability to establish quality relationships with staff, students and community make him a perfect match for our division. We are very lucky to have ‘landed’ Mr. Kasik.”

"Mount Daniel Elementary School is a dynamic and engaging community focused on providing a strong educational foundation through active learning for all students," Kasik said. "I am beyond excited to be able to give back to my community and very much look forward to joining such a wonderful, committed group of educators."

Mr. Kasik is an experienced educator with over 20 years in the field all of it in Fairfax County schools. He began his career as an elementary teacher at Braddock Elementary in 1998. He became assistant principal of Washington Mill Elementary in 2004, before being appointed principal at Crestwood in 2010 where he was twice named Top-Rated Principal by the Fairfax County Federation of Teachers.

The search for Mount Daniel’s next principal utilized an inclusive process with a selection panel made up of staff, administration and PTA leadership, as well as staff and community focus groups. The thoughts gathered, and input on the essential qualities and characteristics of the next principal informed the final selection of Kasik.

“Mr. Kasik is a compassionate school leader and will be a perfect fit into Mount Daniel’s special, nurturing environment,” said Mount Daniel teacher, David Sikora, a member of the Principal Selection Committee. “He also has the track record to guide our school to new heights of academic success and growth.”

"His belief rigorous instruction and inclusion practices for our children with disabilities stood out in his interview,” said Director of Special Education and Student Services Rebecca Sharp. “He is a leader who understands that our special needs students not only have a right to be included, but they also have a right to high-quality education.”

“The Mount Daniel Community will benefit from his drive, as a principal of a Title 1 school, to challenge his students while listening to and communicating with his staff all the while demonstrating warmth and empathy,” MD paraprofessional Shey Wakeley said. Christine Buchholz, an FCCPS parent, added, “Mr. Kasik genuinely cares for the Falls Church City community, and Mount Daniel specifically. He seems like a leader who will preserve the warmth and intimacy of Mount Daniel as it grows into a K-2 school.”

Mr. Kasik earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Ohio University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from George Mason University. He takes over for Erin Truesdell on July 1, 2018. Ms. Truesdell is returning to her native Ohio, this summer.
