June 18th, the Monday following the last day of school, construction crews begin arriving to prepare for the new three story wing.
Construction is scheduled to be completed next May leaving plenty of time to make the transfer of the fifth grade back to Thomas Jefferson in time for the first day of school in 2013. |

Thomas Jefferson Elementary is among 92 schools being recognized by the Virginia Board of Education as a "Title I Distinguished School". The honor is presented annually to schools that raise the academic achievement of economically disadvantaged students. The awards are based on student achievement on state assessments during 2010-2011 and the previous school year.
