Falls Church City Public Schools Office of Special Education offers a continuum of services to students with disabilities. Our school division practices inclusion, to the maximum extent appropriate, promoting the education of our students in the least restrictive environment (LRE). The Office of Special Education is committed to ensuring that our students access school and community resources that are age appropriate and that will benefit the individual needs of the students. Our school division follows the legal principles of the Individuals with Disabilities Act of 1997 and 2004 (IDEIA ‘04), and we support the collaboration of parents and professionals as they work together to educate our students.
The Office of Student Services provides services to meet the on-going needs of all our students, including nursing services, Section 504, guidance, home-bound services and monitoring of home instruction, and records retention. Through our office we provide psychological services to our schools, and provide on-going consultation to our school staff, along with administration of tests to students referred for consideration for special education. Our division social workers support students and their families in attendance and residency issues, short term educational counseling and they serve as a conduit for resources within our community.
