The Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School and Thomas Jefferson Elementary Odyssey of the Mind teams won the regional meet in March. This past weekend, the talented students took their shows on the road to the state competition in Sterling.
Odyssey of the Mind is a worldwide educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through high school. Students are scored on three components of their performance: success in fulfilling the requirements of their long term problem, the team's overall style, and a spontaneous problem that students do not know about until competition day.
Although both teams performed well, neither finished in the top three positions to earn an invitation to compete in the Odyssey of the Mind World Competition in March. However, many team members say they still plan to attend the competition at the University of Maryland as spectators.
