When it comes to academic achievement, eight George Mason High School students have distinguished themselves nationally.  Four were recently named semifinalists and four others were named commended students in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

The students scored in the top one percent of the 2006 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test.  More than 1.4 million juniors nationwide took the test in the spring.

This year’s semifinalists are Peter Davis, Meredyth Duncan, Adam Gann and Sarah Weinberg.  They now qualify for the National Merit Finals, which can include scholarships.

Those who earned recognition as commended students are Michael Costelloe, Matthew Gresko, Alexander Prewitt and Nicole Williamson.
