FCCPS Welcomes Valerie Hardy as MEHMS Principal

Mrs. Valerie Hardy selected as the next MEHMS Principal

Following an extensive search, a Falls Church City Public Schools selection committee is recommending the appointment of Mrs. Valerie K. Hardy as the new principal of Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School beginning July 10, 2017.

"We are so excited to bring in such a qualified candidate who has the skills and background to support the excellence that happens daily at Mary Ellen Henderson, said Superintendent Peter Noonan. "Mrs. Hardy is first among equals whose leadership potential is endless. We are so lucky to get her."

"Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School is an innovative academic community focused on providing rigorous and relevant learning experiences for all students," Hardy said. "I am thrilled to join such a wonderful and committed group of educators and excited to meet the students, parents, and members of the Falls Church City community."

Mrs. Hardy is an experienced educator with over 18 years in the field. She began her career as a middle school special education teacher in Charlottesville, VA. From there she served as a middle school counselor in the Wake County Public School System in Raleigh, North Carolina, before returning to her native Virginia. She has spent the majority of her career in Fairfax County Schools serving as a school counselor, director of student services, central office administrator, and is currently the assistant principal at Daniels Run Elementary School in Fairfax, VA.

"I'm excited about her energy and the positivity that she will bring to MEH," said MEH Physical Education teacher Mark Coffren, a member of the search committee. "We are looking forward to Mrs. Hardy's enthusiasm as well as her commitment to an open and communicative relationship with our entire MEH community," said parent and committee member Adena Williams. "She likes a challenge and is a problem solver," said search committee member and MEH PTA President Carolyn Bruce. "She struck me as someone who listens well and cares about her students very much."

Mrs. Hardy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology and Special Education from James Madison University. She received her Master's Degree in School Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and received her Educational Administrative Endorsement from the University of Virginia.

In her free time, she enjoys traveling with her husband and daughter, reading, and cheering for the Washington Redskins and North Carolina Tarheels.
