Throughout the year the Family Assistance Fund, established through Falls Church City Public Schools, collects donations to assist families with limited resources within our community. The donations are primarily used for holiday and back to school assistance for approved families with at least one school age student. However, some funds are also used for a crisis or medical emergency that occurs at other times during the year.
Mount Daniel School is currently 100 students OVER capacity. Just in the last two years, dedicated program areas such as art and music rooms, and even the library have been converted to general classrooms. Couple that with ADA deficiencies (lack of sprinklers, wheelchair ramps, small door widths, etc.) and Mount Daniel (circa 1952) is in need of an overhaul.
Meet Pink Fluffy Unicorn (left) and Bob, two chicks who hatched in Room 7 at Mt. Daniel. The kindergarten students (and teachers) are beside themselves with joy as the chicks are hatching in every classroom this week. The students will look after them for several weeks until they return them to Hard Bargain Farm.
Mr. Spindle's first grade class enjoyed a special visit form National Education Association vice president Lily Eskelsen, who attended at the invitation of one of the classroom parents. Ms. Eskelsen brought her guitar and favorite books to the class for a reading and singing visit. It was an entertaining morning!
