African Dance

Print
African_Dance_this_oneThis year, George Mason High School is raising money for the Project Mali, and in that spirit, Ms. Spicer's theatre classes are learning about African performances.

The classes are studying African culture to get a better understanding of the different cultures in the world. The classes are also making their own costumes and masks for the plays. Some of the plays will be preformed at the Mali benefit dinner.

The plays were written by the students. The theater classes elected the best story and elaborated it so that it was more applicable and made more sense to the overall story. The IB class script is a union of many stories that the students wrote and piecing it together is definitely taking a lot of work.

The plays are mostly about animals and African people, which is a good thing as this subject allowed students to open their imagination.

There have been a lot of hard working students working in theatre classes to get their costumes and masks ready for the play which were performed at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School.

They are also rehearsing the plays and learning African dances. Mrs. Spicer says, "African dancing is really fun and also a great workout for your body."
