Last night, Mason's third district play tipped off at 7:30 against rival Clarke County High School. The Mustangs started off slow in the first quarter, keeping the score close to 15-9. Constant penetrations to the basket and elevated shots by sophomore Lauren Kane put the Lady Mustangs back in their fast tempo game. Consistent looks to freshman Stephanie Cheney in the paint also helped with the scoring effort. Mason's continuous change of defenses kept the Eagles on their heels causing numerous turnovers. The final score of the game was 50-22.
Saturday, January 17, the Lady Mustangs traveled to Battlefield High School to finish a tournament started in early December. The Mustangs faced a highly ranked, confident Robinson High School. The night before, AAA power house, Robinson knocked off number one ranked Oakton High School. Due to Mason's slight height advantage, they relied on their boxing out and rebounding. Senior Chantal Thomas controlled the floor offensively with major key baskets and assists. The game remained close until the very end. Mason managed to pull out a 46-43 victory.
