Chile editedThe atmosphere was filled with anticipation and excitement on Friday when Mason students participating in the Chilean Exchange Program were called out of class to meet their Chilean students for the first time. Twenty Chilean high school students and two Chilean teachers traveled from Santiago, Chile and arrived Friday afternoon to a warm welcome from students, parents, and faculty.

“It was exciting to finally meet the person who I had been emailing with for a couple of months. I’m looking forward to showing her the American experience and to making a new friend,” said senior Molly Nesemann shortly after meeting her Chilean student. Smiles could be seen all around the Mustang Café as the students met one another for the first time and new friendships began to form.

While in Falls Church, the Chileans will have an action-packed two weeks as they will be traveling to several local landmarks (including Gunston Hall, Mount Vernon, Luray Caverns, the National museums, the National monuments, and the White House) while also experiencing American life at home with their host families.
