‘Xanadu’ musical opens Thursday

Print

Musical_xanadu“Xanadu” is a musical about eight sister muses from Ancient Greece who incarnate themselves on earth by way of a chalk mural made by Sonny Malone. The protagonist muse, Clio, masquerades as an Australian girl named Kira, played by senior Sophie DeLeo. She sets out to inspire Sonny, played by senior Rand Walter, but things go haywire when her jealous sister shoots her with a love spell.

The musical premieres tonight, Thursday, November 15 at 7:30 p.m, and will run until ten o’clock.

“It’s amazing! Definitely a must-see!” says Killian Moore, a freshman.

The musical is spot-on. The humor is scattered throughout, with amazing vocals, costumes, and scenery. Especially amazing is the cast’s ability to dance, act, and sing while roller skating.

GMHS begins second quarter

secondquarterbeginsphotoDespite November 12 being set aside for observation of Veterans’ Day across the country, all classes are in session at George Mason as the school year enters the second quarter.  Students do not seem all that concerned with coming to school despite the Federal Government and surrounding school districts being closed.  After all, Hurricane Sandy and the election have already cancelled school recently.

“We can’t really complain that much,” said senior Nathaniel Schwarz.

Students should get prepared for the new quarter this week as school will be cancelled the majority of next week for Thanksgiving.

POSPresElection_11-5-12_ADixon 001Wondering when senior portrait retakes are rescheduled for?  Originally scheduled for Tuesday, October 30, but cancelled due to school being closed after the effects of Hurricane Sandy, seniors will now have the opportunity to retake their portraits Tuesday, November 13 in the TLC.

According to yearbook sponsor Mrs. Jill McConnell, this will be the last chance for seniors to get their picture in the yearbook.

Seniors who had already called LifeTouch to set up an appointment time on Tuesday will be scheduled for the same time as requested on November 13. There is no need to call again to confirm.

“If students have not scheduled a picture to be taken or want to take a new picture, they should call Ms. Jessica Buffington at 1-800-445-1189,” explained McConnell.

George Mason hosts own mock election

Print

On the day before the 2012 presidential election, November 5, Mason students participated in a mock election to see how the political decisions of George Mason students compared to the results in Falls Church City.

Students received ballots in their homeroom and voted for either Governor Mitt Romney or President Barack Obama.  Ballots were only counted if they were anonymous and checked off only one candidate.

The results were released Wednesday, November 7, showing that eighty percent of the school voted for President Obama and only twenty percent for Governor Romney.

Mason’s results will soon be compared with the Falls Church City exit polls. Check Lasso soon for the results!
