On Monday, the Lasso Online staff married the school newspaper, making the bond official once and for all.
After vows were made and bracelets were exchanged, there was a brief reception, and then the journalism class proceeded to have a newspaper dress-making competition. The class divided into five groups, and each group was given one newspaper from which to create a wedding dress. Groups were given 30 minutes to create their masterpieces.
"It was really interesting to see so many designs come together in such a short amount of time," said sophomore Joy Nystrom.
After an intense half-hour, time was called. The models of each of the five dresses were called to the front of the class and questioned about their dresses.
Junior Eddy Marshall modeled a "pant-dress with glasses" as junior Josh Asadi put it. Senior Liz Nystrom wore a "short dress with a weird strap and a big bow on the front," as she described it, and freshman Kelly Ready showed off a creative newspaper bouquet to go along with her dress. Sophomore Jordie Franklin sported a lovely and large bow in her hair, and weaving on the front of her dress, while Josh Asadi's group went wild, adorning him with flowers on his dress, a necklace, and even newspaper earrings.
"It was the first time I wore a dress and jewelry...it felt strange, but it was entertaining at the same time," said Asadi.
After the questioning, the judges, Joy Nystrom and Becca Ward, cast their votes, as did each individual group. The competition ended up being a tie between the group consisting of Jordie Franklin, Hannah Leopold, and Joy Nystrom, and the group consisting of Josh Asadi, Danielle Agress, Filipa Amaro, and Martine Brandt.
"It was really fun," said junior Filipa Amaro, "It was a really nice way to celebrate our marriage to the newspaper."
