The George Mason girls cross country team has had the best season in its history. One of the team’s young leaders was freshman, Eva Estrada. Eva turned the sport into a passion and with every stride showed determination for the first place she longed for. For most Mason runners, competitive running ends after State competition, but for this youthful athlete it seems she may have a more competitive nature, for she competed against some of the best runners in the Cross Country Junior Olympics last weekend.
This might just be one of the best years for Eva Estrada. With the second semester not even over, Eva has become the first ever PE Student of the Month and a leading member of the Girls State Champion Cross Country team.
The backbone behind Eva’s accomplishments in running is her mom and dad. “My parents were both athletic, and push me to do my best; they support me, and encourage me to compete in what I enjoy. I thank them so much for many of my accomplishments.”
With the support of her family and friends, Eva Estrada placed a very impressive twelfth place with a time of 16:41:14 in the 4K race. Her race consisted of runners from Georgia, North Carolina, Potomac Valley, Virginia, and South Carolina. It was an outstanding run by a promising freshman athlete.
