The class of 2012 became George Mason alumni at D.A.R. Constitution Hall on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 in Washington, D.C. After five years at Mason, students received their diplomas from Principal Ty Byrd.

Mr. Aneesh Chopra gave the commencement address.  Chopra served as the first White House Chief Technology Officer and is known to be an innovator for the United States, helping to reduce health care costs, create jobs, and increase government efficiency.  He told the Class of 2012 to contribute to their community, state, and country by thinking creatively and inventing solutions to our world’s problems.

In addition to the keynote speech, several students performed songs for their classmates while members of the school board, administration, and the superintendent addressed the graduates.

Graduating senior Lia Cattaneo led her classmates through a final “V-I-C-T-O-R-Y” cheer, a contest of “who’s the loudest” which is something the class had been notorious for not winning in the past.

Graduating senior and treasurer his class Chris Earman announced that the class gift was a contribution to the growing electronic-marquee fund as well as a few new microwaves for the Mustang Café.

After the final diplomas were distributed and caps had been thrown, George Mason High School alumni streamed out of the theatre, ringing the bell and prepared to take on the world.

The celebration continued after the ceremony at the All Night Graduation Party hosted at Skyline Health and Fitness.

As students go their separate ways and venture into the “real world,” they will always be Mustangs at heart.
