“We don’t take ourselves too seriously, but we are serious about raising money for good causes,” said Carol Loftur-Thun, member of grassroots group Strange Bedfellow and chair of Citizens for a Sustainable City.
Citizens for a Sustainable City being one of the many Falls Church Organizations [full list below] are involved with grassroots group Strange Bedfellow working towards supporting and donating to cancer victims and their families. And now they want GMHS students and families to get involved with the worthy cause.
All are welcome and encouraged to attend the first event that will be an original play featuring the 2013 Capital Fringe Festival and a 2013 Northern Virginia Theatre Alliance Award winner to their very own Creative Cauldron at Art Space to raise money for Inova's Life with Cancer Program.
There will be two performances of the play "The Actual Dance" by Sam Simon on Sunday, February 23, at Creative Cauldron in Falls Church. Performance times will be at 2PM and 7PM. Regular ticket price is $25, along with sponsorship opportunities. All raised funds will be going to cancer victims and their families. For more information on ticket prices click here.
The play written by Sam Simon is the emotional journey that Simon went through when being confronted with the possibility of being with the person you have loved the most through the end of their life. In the spring of 2000, Sam's wife, Susan, was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. That diagnosis and subsequent treatments took both of them on a roller coaster ride that moved from elation to despair and back again. “The Actual Dance” is a presentation of that ride from Sam's perspective.
“We each know friends and family impacted by cancer, so it's a cause that unites us all,” said Loftur- Thun. “After helping to get the water referendum passed last fall, I'm glad to be part of this refreshingly collaborative effort to reach across generations, across the aisle, and across boundaries to help raise funds for cancer victims and their families."
While Strange Bedfellow is the main group helping organize this special event many other diverse Falls Church organizations are also a part of the Strange Bedfellow group. The organizations go as follows; American Legion Post 1930, Catholic War Veterans, Falls Church Lions Club, Falls Church Area Branch of the American Association of University Women, Veterans of Foreign Affairs, Falls Church Democrats, Falls Church Republicans, Cherrywood Homeowners Association, Greater Hillwood Citizens Association, Village Preservation and Improvement Society, Greater Falls Church Veterans, League of Women Voters, Boy Scout Troop 349, and Citizens for Sustainable City.
