After a long season, the senior boys lacrosse players were able to lead their team to victory for the second time on Thursday, April 28. Although only four players will be leaving the team next year, their impact will be felt all throughout the lacrosse program. The Mustangs defeated the Tuscarora Huskies 13-8 led by outstanding performances from sophomore Austin Nooter and junior Will Powell.
Both Nooter and Powell scored four goals; Powell also had two assists. Freshman Raphe Schultz scored two goals and junior Ben Tourkin scored three. The game was close and no team was ever up by more than five goals. Without senior Mikey Larcamp leading the sideline in the chants for Mason, the team would have been silenced after Tuscarora made a run in the third quarter.
Along with Larcamp, seniors Mitch Hirsch, Sebastian Askin, and Ham Smith will all be missed next year. The defense will lose three key players that are big contributors to the defense. When they are on their game, the defense stops any and all offensive runs. Smith will greatly missed for his outstanding performances on offence. The Mason team will need a new crop of players to step up next season if they want to have a better season than this year.
