Mason lacrosse showing signs of improvement

Although the Mason boy’s lacrosse suffered another loss by double digits, the team has improved greatly from the beginning of the season. The team traveled to Dominion High to play the Titans and was sent home with a 5-15 loss. Although the team lost the competition, they hung through the game with the Titans throughout the second half.

The first quarter was close with both Dominion and Mason scoring and playing tough defense. Mason was still in the game after the first quarter with a score of 5-2. However, the team wasn’t able to keep the same pace in the second and let Dominion capitalize on the faceoff; by halftime, the score was 13-3.

Mason came back playing a tight game until the end of the game and tied Dominion in goals scored for the second half of the game. Junior Marek Wojtala subbed for junior Sam Cashin after halftime and stopped many shots keeping Mason’s spirits up. Freshman Raphe Schultz—or as the announcer pronounced, Ralph—scored three of Mason’s goals and had many close shots. Junior Will Powell and sophomore Austin Nooter also tallied with one goal. If Mason can play the way that they did in the second half of the game, then they may be able to beat Tuscarora at the home game on Thursday, April 28.
