Mount Daniel School

The Falls Church School Board received news this week that enrollment for the 2016-17 school year is spiking at all schools with a division wide rate of growth at nearly 6.6% on the first day of school; an additional 167 students over last year.

Falls Church City Public Schools is welcoming more than 40 new teachers, specialists and counselors this year. They are undergoing 1st year Orientation before joining their colleagues who arrive next Monday.

Following a very productive public hearing before the Fairfax Planning Commission last week a decision on the project was scheduled for Thursday, July 28th. We now expect that the Planning Commission will defer a final decision on the Mount Daniel project until September 14, or 15, 2016 (the Planning Commission does not meet in August).

A number of important points and questions were raised by the Commissioners and this deferral will provide ample time for the Commissioners to consider our response to each point in a thorough and thoughtful manner.

We appreciate all of the support from those who spoke and those who attended the public hearing last week. We will communicate the next date once the Planning Commission sets it.

On Thursday July 21st, the FCCPS application to expand Mount Daniel Elementary was back on the agenda for the much anticipated 2232 Public Hearing before the Fairfax County Planning Commission.
