The State Board of Education this week recognized Falls Church City Public Schools as one of only two divisions in Virginia earning a 2016 Virginia Index of Performance award for advanced learning and achievement.

The Falls Church School Board has appointed Erin Kelly as the next principal of Mount Daniel Elementary beginning July 1st. Kelly has been Assistant Principal at the school for the last 2 years.

Paul Swanson, an elementary principal in Indiana, has accepted the position as new principal of Thomas Jefferson Elementary School. The TJ Selection Committee is hosting a welcome reception for the community on Wednesday, June 8th at 6:30 p.m. in the Thomas Jefferson cafeteria.

The Falls Church School Board met for its 10th FY17 Budget Work Session Wednesday as work continues to locate $912 thousand in cuts to the proposed budget it presented to City Council.

The community was invited to learn about the current state of the Mt. Daniel project, and ask any questions and have concerns addressed.

On Monday night, 4 of 7 City Council members signaled a desire to hold the tax rate flat this year, requiring the School Board to find $912 thousand in budget cuts. A reduction of this magnitude requires significant reduction in services to our children and our entire school system.

The new 2232 application has been submitted to the Fairfax County Planning Staff for review. The staff's initial review will confirm that the submission meets the procedural requirements.

During the recent GM/MEH Campus Redevelopment Forums, one popular question asked was, "How do recent and future developments impact student enrollment within FCCPS?".

City Manager Wyatt Shields and Supt. Toni Jones discussed the latest plans for a new George Mason High and expansion of Mary Ellen Henderson before a good crowd on Wednesday, March 30th, and again on Wednesday April 6th. 

Parents of students in Grades 6 - 10 were invited to attend a Parent Information sessions on April 4th and 5th. The session will cover MYP grading and assessment.

Congratulations Heather Van Gorder, the 2016 FCCPS Teacher of the Year! Van Gorder, a first grade teacher at Mount Daniel Elementary was surprised with the news during a staff meeting this morning.

FCCPS is pleased to recognize seven nominees for the Support Staff Employee of the Year Award. These outstanding employees were nominated by colleagues, parents and community members in appreciation of the outstanding service to the school community.

This past weekend, 36 Technology Student Association members from Mary Ellen Henderson and George Mason participated in the Northern Region TSA competition held at John Champe High School in Loudoun County along with 853 other TSA members.

George Mason Wind Ensemble received "Superior" ratings in last weeks District X Band Assessment at T.C. Williams High School.

The GMHS FIRST Robotics team  #1418 Vae Victis was part of the first place alliance at the FIRST Chesapeake District Northern Virginia event.

The Fairfax County Health Department is recognizing local eateries for excellence in food-safety practices and employee education.
Mount Daniel School is among sixteen local food service operations receiving the second annual 14 Carrot Gold Food Safety Excellence Award as an acknowledgment of their commitment to food safety.

The George Mason Boys Basketball team continued its undefeated season with a State Quarterfinal win over the Graham High G-Men Saturday, 74-72.

The Falls Church School Board unanimously approved it's proposed budget for the FY17 school year on Tuesday, March 1st.

George Mason seniors Carrinton Mauney and Douglas Bossart have advanced to the final round of the 2016 National Merit Scholarship program.
