Happy Birthday FCCPS

It is with celebration that the staff of Lasso Online recognizes the 60th Anniversary of the Falls Church City Public Schools system. Lasso has played a large part in reporting the growth, milestones, issues, and controversies of FCCPS and George Mason High School since the 1960s and will continue to do so for many years to come.

The Falls Church City Public Schools district was founded on June 27, 1949 after residents decided they wanted more control over their schools. As a result, Falls Church city broke away from Fairfax and became an independent city.

In 1952, George Mason High School was founded and has been serving the community and winning athletic and academic awards ever since.

The staff of Lasso Online has been working hard all semester to bring this special edition to our readers. Each staff member has investigated one of the many parts of our school system, ranging from investigations on the building itself to highlights of staff and students of the past.

It was a mystery and an adventure to crack open the Lasso archives and discover how life happened in our school in times we can only imagine.

Happy birthday, Falls Church City Public Schools… and many more.
