Student Outcomes
Data were obtained from preliminary NCLB Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) reports and School Report Cards published at the VDOE website as of September 2006. Owing to matters beyond our control, final SOL data from Spring 2006 administrations were unavailable to school divisions at time of compilation of this report.
Middle School Grades
In 2004-05, grade 7 mathematics scores reflected students taking Algebra 1, while eighth graders took the grade 8 assessment along with any other relevant end-of-course mathematics assessment for which they had received instruction. In 2005-06, mathematics assessment was at only one level.

1 Groups under 50 are deemed "too small" by VDOE for AYP calculation
With the addition of tested grades, some AYP subgroups that were previously below the "small N" of 50 have now exceeded that threshold at the middle school, high school and division levels. Thus schools will need to ensure that all subgroups meet the AYP criteria to enable the division to maintain its AYP standing.
